CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Northwestern State soccer's weekend on the road is underlined by an opportunity to challenge figures in the all-time record book.
Sunday, NSU (3-3-2, 3-0 SLC) wraps its first Southland Conference road trip with a chance to tie the best start to conference play in program history against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-4-1, 1-0-1 SLC) – a mark set just six months previously in the 2021 spring season.
Reigning Southland Goalkeeper of the Year
Acelya Aydogmus is in position to leave her mark on NSU leaderboards, having tied the program record for career shutouts among former Lady Demon keepers. A four-match shutout streak by NSU defenders pushed Aydogmus' tally to 19, tying Tiffany Swinglers' record-setting mark set in 2002.
Aydogmus has made 11 saves since the start of conference play and has not allowed a goal since August 29
th against No. 23 Rice.
Despite the chance to set new records, the Lady Demons remain focused on what they can control.
"This team does an excellent job of eliminating distractions on the road, and keeping sight of what is important," head coach
Stuart Gore said. "Rather than creating distractions for themselves, the team stays sharp through team building exercises and study. Their level of focus really is something."
Junior forward
Olivia Draguicevich has taken command of the NSU attack, having scored a goal in three straight matches. She now leads the Lady Demons in scoring offense with three goals and two assists, all of which have occurred since the conference opener against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 10.
NSU currently maintains a 4-3-1 edge all-time in the series against Corpus, however the Islanders have gained a foothold against the Lady Demons, having taken three of the last five matches since 2016.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track and Field Stadium.
