Aydogmus’ efforts not enough as Lady Demons fall at Prairie View

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Northwestern State goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmus made a career-high 10 saves Friday, but the effort wasn't enough as Prairie View scored a late goal in a 1-0 Lady Demon loss.

Aydogmus kept NSU (0-2-1) within striking distance for the most of the night, but she was unable to stem the tide as a bottom center shot attempt by Lady Panther Andrea Nugent paid off in the 78th minute, awarding Prairie View the lone goal of the match.

The opening period proved to belong largely to Prairie View (1-1-1), as the Lady Panthers took a 7-1 edge in total shot attempts through the first half of play.

NSU, looking for a level of consistency to its offense through the opening act of its season, created some opportunities in the second period.

At the 46th and 52nd minute-marks, shot attempts by sophomore midfielder Kyle Nolen and Williams' second attempt of the evening were both on target, but were halted by keeper Sierra Cota-Yarde. The Lady Demons finished the evening with five total shot attempts, four which were on target.

After Prairie View took a late 1-0 lead, the Lady Demons found an opportunity to even the score with a corner kick in the 88th minute. With 40 seconds left in regulation, a corner kick for the Lady Demons was served up to junior forward Olivia Draguicevich in front of the opposing net but would not pay off as it was saved from outside the goal area.

Prairie View ended the evening with 17 shots, 10 of which were stopped in the net.

NSU will attempt to rebound Sunday as the Lady Demons head to Rice for a noon kickoff at Holloway Field.
