NATCHITOCHES: Senior members of the Northwestern State soccer team—for the fourth week out of the past six—have dominated Southland Conference weekly accolades.
NSU's prized keeper
Acelya Aydogmus, along with Southland preseason first-team defender
Natalee Henry, earned Southland Goalkeeper and Defender of the Week awards, respectively.
Following the Lady Demons' fourth consecutive shutout win, NSU's prized keeper
Acelya Aydogmus claimed Southland Goalkeeper of the Week. The award marks her fourth on the season.
Aydogmus tallied her ninth shutout this season on Sunday in a rematch with Incarnate Word, tying the single season shutout record, a mark set by herself six months prior in a pandemic-adjusted spring 2020 season. Aydogmus currently sports an 8-1-1 record against conference opponents, has played every minute in the net for NSU (1,417), and has only allowed three goals since conference play began on Sept. 10, dropping her goals against average to a league-best 0.76.
Henry, whose one-goal, one-assist day against UIW resulted in her second weekly award of the season, still proved a menace on the defensive side of the ball, despite having moved forward in the lineup. In Friday's 2-0 shutout of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Henry created what proved to be the game-winner with a steal deep in Islanders' territory to set up forward
Olivia Draguicevich for the 1-0 goal. Henry currently has four goals and four assists, bringing her season points tally to 12.
The Lady Demons wrap their regular season road schedule with a Tuesday bout at Houston Baptist, before returning home for Senior Day on Oct. 29.
