LAKE CHARLES – With freshman jumper

NSU had a total of five event wins at the Lena and Bill Henning Track and Field Complex among the field of 10 collegiate programs and three non-college affiliated teams. Clarke took the women's high jump (5-3) and triple jump (40-9 ½) gold medals.

Sixth-year head track and field coach
Mike Heimerman said he was pleased with the meet, even while resting some of the top talent in the program.
"I thought it went well. We had a very wet and cold week of practice so it was nice to finally get out there and just compete," said Heimerman. "We had some good performances, and nobody got hurt. It's a great start to the season."
The hosting Cowboys and Cowgirls combined for 330 points to win the meet by a large margin over second-place UL-Monroe at 208 points. Tying NSU at 205 was UL Lafayette, with Southeastern Louisiana at 118 leading the rest of the 11-team pack.
In the high jump, Clarke, a Houston native, edged fellow Lady Demon freshman
Marlee Paulk who leaped 5-1 to claim second. Clarke's triple jump winning mark was eight inches more than ULM's Micaiah Dendy.
