DES MOINES, Iowa – Northwestern State senior All-American Amir James and another of the Demons' all-time great sprint stars, 2014 All-American Justin Walker, both advanced Saturday to the 200 meter dash semifinals Sunday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Walker, competing professionally, had the fourth-fastest qualifying time, 20.53, and won his heat. James, in his last meet as a Demon, was ninth-fastest among the 22 competitors, 16 advancing, with a 20.79 mark.

They compete in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Sunday in Drake Stadium, aiming to reach the finals at 4:10. Ameer Webb led all qualifiers Saturday in 20.39.

James set the NSU school record, 20.41, in May at the NCAA East Preliminary Round after initially breaking it with a 20.47 at the Southland Conference Championships.

Walker took third in the 200 at the 2014 NCAA Outdoors, after finishing fourth in the 100, to earn his two first-team All-America honors.

James ran the pivotal third leg of the Demons' record-shattering 4x100 team that posted a 38.92 in the NCAA semifinals earlier this month and earned first-team All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the finals. Two years earlier, he was a second-team All-American in the 4x100 after the Demons finished 15th at the NCAA Outdoors.

Also Saturday, Lady Demons senior De'Shalyn Jones wrapped up her remarkable career at NSU when she finished 22nd in the women's 200 opening round, running 23.87. Jones was the two-time Southland Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year who also this year was the Southland's Female Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year, and she was honorable mention All-America on the Lady Demons' 4x100 relay team that reached the NCAA Outdoors.

Sunday's 200 meter final will be carried on NBC during its telecast from 3-5. The semifinals will be on NBC Sports Gold.
