NATCHITOCHES—Freshman Maria Skyba of the Northwestern State tennis team entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's end of the fall season ranking, checking in at No. 114, becoming the first Lady Demon to be ranked in singles since Martina Rubesova in 2010.

The ITA ranks the top 125 Division I tennis players and will come out with a new ranking every two weeks in the spring.

"We are very proud of Maria for being ranked in the top 125 nationally," head coach Patric DuBois said. "This is a nice honor, especially for an incoming freshman. Maria had a solid fall season and improved each week. We look for Maria to be an impact player in singles and doubles in the spring team season."

Skyba, a freshman from Kiev, Ukraine, had a great start to her collegiate career, as she won her first two tournaments.

In the singles matches she completed, the freshman went 7-1 throughout the fall.

Skyba and the rest of the Lady Demons begin their spring season at the SMU Metroplex Mania Invitational Jan. 11.
