CHATTANOOGA -- The Northwestern State softball team split for the second day in Chattanooga's Frost Classic, coming back to beat Western Michigan 7-5 and falling to Saint Louis 20-7.

NSU 7, Western Michigan 5
Â
NSU used some small ball to grab the lead against Western Michigan (5-5) and one big swing to put the Broncos away as part of a six-run, fifth inning.
Â
Trailing 3-1, the Lady Demons strung together four singles to score a run and plated two more on a wild pitch to lead 4-3.
Â
Sophomore
Kaylee Isenburg clubbed a three-run home run to vault NSU's lead to 7-3, providing enough cushion against a Broncos squad who made a seventh-inning charge.
Â
Isenburg has hit two career home runs, the first a grand slam against McNeese in a 2016 win.
Â
Earlier in the inning, senior
Brittney Jones contributed a bases-loaded single to score
Adele Vincent (singled) with singles by
Elise Vincent and
Kellye Kincannon squeezed in between.
Â
Elise Vincent and Kincannon scored on a wild pitch by Jordan Kurth, who allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits.
Â
NSU freshman
Hayley Barbazon (2-0) picked up her second win in relief by holding off a late Western Michigan charge.
Â
Barbazon, who allowed two runs (one earned) in three innings, retired the six of the seven batters she faced in the fifth and sixth innings.
Â
But Western Michigan's Kaylen Glenfield hit a solo home run before WMU scored on NSU's third error of the game to cut the lead to 7-5. But Barbazon recorded her third strikeout to end the game with a runner on second base to end the game.
Â
Sophomore pitcher
Katelyn Boles shrugged off a slow start to pitch four innings.
Â
With two outs in the first inning, WMU's Erin Binkowski hit a two-run home run before Boles could end the inning with her third strikeout.
Â
The Broncos added a run in the second inning with an Ivy Schaaf single to score Marlee Wilson, who reached on an error, to lead 3-0.
Â
Boles worked around an error to pitch an incident-free last two innings, finishing with three runs on three hits and tying a career-high with four strikeouts.
Â
NSU started its comeback in the third inning with a
Kellye Kincannon RBI single, scoring
Hailee Rhodes to cut WMU's record to 3-1. Rhodes made the start at shortstop for an injured
Toni Hebert, who collided with a base runner sliding into second base.
Â
Â
Saint Louis 20, NSU 7 (6)
Â
Four Northwestern State pitchers combined to allow a program-record 20 runs in Saturday evening's loss in six innings.
Â
The Billikens (5-4) produced 15 hits and had 10 more base runners (eight walks, two errors) on the night.
Â
The score was tied 4-4 after the first inning thanks in part to a three-run
Brittney Jones home run. Jones hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to tie a career-high five RBIs, but SLU still led 13-6.
Â
As a pitcher, Jones allowed 10 runs in the final two innings to break open a game that 10-4 after four innings.
