DALLAS – The Northwestern State women's tennis team hoped to build on its day one performance at SMU's Metroplex Mania but were stricken with the injury bug on day two.

NSU started off well with Polina Ivanova and Polina Mutel winning the flight two doubles, beating Georgia State's combination of Taluyenko and Vovk 6-2 in the semifinals and taking out the amalgamation of Texas A&M's Riley McQuaid and SMU's Tiffany Holleback, 6-4, to win the flight championship.

Mutel also advanced in the No. 4 singles consolation bracket, beating Abilene Christian's Nini Memishishi 6-3,6-4. With the win, Mutel advances to the consolation final, where she will face Georgia State's Lara Vovk on Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, the Lady Demon success was stifled due to circumstances out of their control, as multiple injuries forced NSU out of competition.

Judit Castillo pulling a muscle in doubles, forcing her to withdraw from her doubles match. The bad luck did not end there for NSU, as Ivanova and Elzbieta Iwaniuk were forced of action with injury. Iwaniuk was up in her singles match against Riley McQuaid 6-4, 4-4, before injuring her ankle.  For updates throughout the weekend, check NSUDemons.com and follow NSUDemonsWTN on Twitter.
