EUGENE, Ore. – Northwestern State All-Americans
Aaron Williams and Justin Walker couldn't advance Thursday evening in their events at the USA Olympic Trials in track and field.
Williams, who just completed his remarkable Demon career this spring, finished 22
nd in the triple jump with a 50-5 ½ best on three attempts, and did not make the group of 12 finalists advancing to Saturday.
The Duson-Acadiana product, who graduated from NSU this spring, needed to top his career best 52-10 to advance. A 53-3 ½ mark was the 12
th best in Thursday's competition at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Walker, a three-time NSU All-American in 2013-14, ran the 20
th fastest time in a field of 37 qualifiers in the 200 meter dash, with 21 advancing to Friday semifinals. However, the top three finishers in each of six first-round heats advanced automatically, along with the next three fastest times among those finishing fourth or lower. Walker was sixth in that pool and did not advance with his 20.60 time, although four competitors with slower times did advance by finishing in the top three in their heats.
Last Friday, NSU's 2011 NCAA women's discus champion, Trecey Rew Hoover, was 22
nd in her specialty.
The Demons produced USA Olympians in 2000 (LaMark Carter), 2004 and 2008 (Kenta Bell) in the men's triple jump.
