PORTLAND, Ore. – Northwestern State sophomore sprinter
Amir James posted a personal best time Friday night to qualify for Saturday afternoon's semifinals in the 60 meter dash at the 2016 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships.
James clocked 6.67, 11
th fastest among the 24 national qualifiers at the meet. The top 16 advanced to two eight-man semifinals Saturday afternoon, with eight spots available in Saturday evening's finals. A 6.65 was the eighth-fastest time Friday night.
The mark was 0.04 better than James' previous best.
NSU senior twins Aaron and
Emmanuel Williams will compete in the triple jump Saturday. Friday, they finished 12
th and 13
th in a 17-man field in the long jump, with Emmanuel posting a 24-4 ¼ mark and Aaron one inch behind.
Lady Demon senior
Por'sha Thomas finished 15
th in her specialty, the triple jump, on Friday with a mark of 40-3 ¼. Her season-best 42-3 would not have qualified for the nine-woman finals.
