NATCHITOCHES -- Former Northwestern State softball standout Ginger Craig will be Saturday's Exchange Bank Demon Great of the Game as the football team takes on Kentucky Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
Â
Craig (1985-88) dominated opposing pitchers in an era where pitching was supreme, setting 10 Lady Demon career hitting records and still holding the career triples mark with 18.
Â
Craig, who is one of two NSU softball players to have her jersey number retired, also holds the single-season batting average record with .428 in 1987.
Â
In her career, she hit 30 home runs and slugged .543, both of which are now fifth on the NSU charts.
Â
The N-Club Hall of Fame member is on the organization's steering committee and has a scholarship named in her honor as part of the Perpetually Purple campaign.
Â
Craig is nearing her 30
th year of teaching in Red River Parish and is now teaching adapted physical education as part of the parish's special education program.
Â
She will be honored during the first quarter.
Â
A Demon Great of the Game is spotlighted at each NSU home football game with receiver Al Phillips getting the nod in the home opener this season.
Â
In its first three years, the Demon Great of the Game presented by Exchange Bank and Trust of Natchitoches honored 17 of the most outstanding performers in the 108-year history of NSU athletics. Exchange Bank has been a key supporter of NSU Athletics throughout its long history as the oldest financial institution in Natchitoches.
