Lady Demons head to Texas for Southland two-step weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Defending Southland Conference women's tennis champion Northwestern State takes on the south Texas road trip this weekend with visits to play Saturday at Incarnate Word and Sunday against last year's Southland Tournament champion and NCAA Tournament entry, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Lady Demons are 4-6 overall, 1-0 in the Southland. UIW is 1-11 and 0-1, while AMCC is 6-4 overall and makes its conference debut this weekend.

NSU and AMCC have met in the last two Southland Tournament championship finals, with the Lady Demons prevailing in 2013 and the Islanders winning last year.

"Both teams are well coached and we have to play good tennis to win," said first-year Lady Demons coach Olga Bazhanova. "It's very important to execute and dominate from the beginning. It's going to be an exciting weekend and we are looking forward to it."
