NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State football program's return of the coveted Chief Caddo trophy has been chosen and pushed into the "Demon Delight" contest quarterfinals via fan voting online at NSUDemons.com and on the @nsudemons Twitter account.
Voting concluded Tuesday at midnight in the fourth of eight opening-round "matchups" of 16 top accomplishments from the recently completed NSU sports year.
The fifth pairing in Round 1 will be settled Thursday at midnight, with voters picking their favorite feat between Justin Walker topping the world list with a 9.95 100-meter dash while winning three conference sprint titles or NSU baseball pitcher Adam Oller being named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America honors.
The football program's return of Chief Caddo captured a stranglehold on the contest on both NSUDemons.com and on the @nsudemons Twitter account seizing 79 percent of the votes.
Under first-year head coach
Jay Thomas, the Demons posted their best record since 2008 including the 40-27 thumping of Stephen F. Austin to close out the season at Turpin Stadium.
Beginning Tuesday until midnight Thursday, fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite feat between Walker's record-breaking campaign and Adam Oller's accolades.
Sixteen top feats, dubbed "Demon Delights," have been chosen and paired in eight "first-round" voting matchups. In each, fans will have two days to choose their favorite, advancing it to the quarterfinals, then semifinal rounds, with winners selected in a 24-hour span. The finalists will be open for voting for two days with the "2013-14 Demon Delight of the Year" selected on Aug. 3, just before the NSU football team holds its first practice in preseason camp under second-year coach
Jay Thomas.
The 2013-14 highlights feature one bracket filled almost completely with team accomplishments, and the other side showcasing spectacular individual performances.
