Box Score 2 TROY, Ala. – Suffering the worst loss in program history, the Northwestern State softball team dropped a 16-0 decision to No. 6 Alabama Saturday afternoon at the Troy Subway Invitational after falling to North Florida 6-1 earlier in the day.
The Lady Demons dropped to 1-3 overall as the Tide rolled to a 3-0 start and UNF improved to 2-1.
"Today was a rough one, and something to learn from," said sixth-year NSU head coach
Donald Pickett. "We faced two very talented teams, and wish them the best in the future."
The Tide, who have made 15-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and brought home the program's first national championship in 2012, powered over NSU with 12 hits. Sophomore Haylie McCleney went 2-2 with four RBI, followed by Chaunsey Bell with three RBI on a 1-3 outing.
Leslie Jury (2-0) picked up the win for UA as freshman
Skylar Cagle (0-3) took the loss for Northwestern State.

Against North Florida,
Cassandra Barefield gave NSU its only run as she homered over the left field wall in the second inning.
Micayla Sorosiak singled twice and
Cheyenne DelaGarza once, but it was not enough compared to UNF's 10 hits.
The Ospreys rallied from the early deficit to go ahead 2-1 in the third, added a run in the fourth and put it away with three in the top of the seventh.
Cagle took the loss as she threw three complete innings from the circle, allowing six hits and striking out three. Gray entered in the fourth inning, striking out one and allowing four hits.
The Lady Demons wrap up tournament play on Sunday against Middle Tennessee State at noon, and will make their home debut on Friday at 5:00 at the Lady Demon Softball Complex against Mississippi Valley State.
