HOUSTON – After grabbing its first win on an opponent's floor at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday, the Northwestern State women's basketball team will try to make it two on Saturday night at Houston Baptist for a 3 o'clock tip in Southland Conference action.

NSU (9-6, 2-1 SLC) was down early to the Islanders, but its defense stepped up to hold Corpus Christi to 18 points for more than 27 minutes to allow the Lady Demons to get back in and gain a big lead.  AMCC made a run at the end but could not catch the Lady Demons for a 65-59 final.

HBU (4-10, 0-3 SLC) lost to Stephen F. Austin 71-60 Thursday night.  The loss gives Houston Baptist seven in its last eight games.

"It will be another Thursday-Saturday game where it's two completely different styles, and we have to turn the page quickly," said co-head coach Brooke Stoehr.

"[Houston Baptist] is a team that is a little less athletic than Corpus Christi, but will execute a little better in the half court," she said.  "We'll have to turn our focus to guarding in the half court and rebounding."

HBU scores 67 points and allows 73 per contest.  The Huskies shoot 43 percent from the field, but 25 percent from behind the 3-point line.

They average 19 turnovers and force 20 a game on an average of 10 steals.

Shanice Steenholdt leads the Huskies in scoring (17.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.9 rpg).  Erin McGarrachan and Rachel Arthur average in double-figure scoring, 10.9 and 10..7 points per game respectively.

Keisha Lee (15.5 ppg) and Trudy Armstead (14.4 ppg) lead the Lady Demons in scoring.  Janelle Perez follows with 9.5 points a contest.

Armstead leads the team with six rebounds a game, just ahead of just Chelsea Rogers (5.9 rpg) and Kourntey Pennywell (5.5 rpg).

Pennywell has set new career-highs in points each of the last two games.

The Lady Demons score and allow 65 points per game.  They shoot 42 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc.

Northwestern State will return to the floor when it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 5:30 in Prather Coliseum.
