NSU qualifies 10 athletes for NCAA Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ten track and field athletes will represent the Northwestern State men's and women's programs in seven events as the Demons and Lady Demons travel to compete in the East Preliminary Round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at North Carolina A&T's Irwin Belk Track this weekend.
 
The meet is set to begin on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the first round of the men's discus competition and will conclude on Saturday at 9:45 p.m. with the men's 4x400 relay quarterfinals.
 
The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to Eugene, Oregon for the national semifinals and finals from June 5-8.
 
Justin Walker, Kendal Taylor, Hanoj Carter and Gabriel White will represent the Demon sprint group.
 
Walker, a junior, ranks 11th in the men's 100m dash after clocking in at 10.25 in his winning race at the SLC Championships. The Demon veteran will also team up with Taylor, Carter and White for the 4x100 relay, in which they ranked 20th.
 
Carter is currently in the top 10 in the 200m, ranking ninth in the region with a time of 20.67.
 
The Demons qualified three jumpers for the regional meet with sophomore Emmanuel Williams leading the way.
 
Williams ranks 17th in the triple jump and 22nd in the long jump. He is joined by senior Wayne Douglas (23rd) and twin brother Aaron Williams (28th) in the triple jump.
 
Janae Allen, Rechelle Bessard and Jessica Talley will compete for the Lady Demons.
 
Bessard, a freshman, and Allen, a senior, both qualified in the discus and rank 25th (166-05) and 27th (165-03), respectively.
 
Talley enters the weekend ranking 17th in the javelin standings. The redshirt sophomore will attempt to make her second trip to the national meet after becoming an All-American in her freshman season.
