LAKE CHARLES – Personal records by
Janae Allen,
Rechelle Bessard and
Lionel Ellison highlighted the Northwestern State track and field team' performances at the McNeese State Springtime Classic on Saturday at the Cameron Communications Track and Field Complex.
Allen led the way for the women's throwers as she placed in the top two in all three of her events. The senior set a personal record in the hammer throw with a mark of 174-08, placing second. She also won the discus with a throw of 160-02 and finished second in the shot put after throwing for 46-08.
Bessard, a freshman, had a record day in the discus with a throw of 150-06, the second best mark of the meet.
Other top performers for the Lady Demons include
Jerrica Tillery,
Jessica Talley and
Quiana Griffin.
Tillery, a sophomore, cleared 40 feet in the triple jump for the second time in her career as she won the event with a season-best leap of 40-00.50.
Talley won the javelin with a season-best throw of 157-09 and Griffin placed second in the 400m dash, clocking in at 55.23 seconds.
Ellison, a freshman for the Demons squad, cleared a personal-best 6-09 in the high jump for a second place finish.
The Demon triple jumpers ran the show, taking the top three spots at the meet.
Emmanuel Williams won with a leap of 50-06.25,
Wayne Douglas was No. 2 at 48-03.25 and
Aaron Williams was third, jumping 48-02.50.
Albert Gladney also had an impressive performance for the men's team, running the 5000m run in 15:47.04 for a first place finish.
The NSU track teams will compete in two meets next weekend as they travel to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday and LSU on Saturday.
