Lady Demons shut out by Lady Techsters

Box Score RUSTON – The Northwestern State softball team fell to non-conference foe Louisiana Tech 8-0 Wednesday evening.
 
“This was a tough game for us, especially with the rivalry we've always had with Louisiana Tech,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “We've met up with them quite a few times already this season, and we have one more chance to battle with them in a couple weeks.
 
The Lady Demons fall to 24-7 as La. Tech improves to 14-15.
 
The Lady Techsters took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning as the Lady Demons were forced to make a pitching change part-way through the inning. Baylee Gray came in to relieve Kaylee Guidry.
 
Guidry (6-2) struck out one and allowed three hits in 0.2 innings.
 
Gray (2-0) allowed six hits in two innings.
 
Senior Paige Cavallin (1-0) threw the final inning for NSU as she faced four batters.
 
Louisiana Tech continued to pile on runs, picking up three in the second and one more in the third, holding the Lady Demons scoreless.
 
NSU put runners on second and third in the fifth with two outs, but was unable to score as Anna Cross struck out Jordan Palmer to end the game.
 
Cassandra Barefield led from the plate as she went 1-2.
 
The Lady Demons will host Lamar in a three-game Southland Conference Series beginning on Friday at four o'clock at the Lady Demon Diamond.
