NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State softball team will host Jackson State on Wednesday at the Lady Demon Diamond for a non-conference game beginning at five o'clock.
The Lady Demons (20-6, 2-3) met up with the Lady Tigers (10-19) earlier this season, as NSU came out on top of the 5-2 contest.
Junior Tara McKenney leads the Southland Conference with five triples, and sits at the top of the team with a .389 batting average and 37 hits.
Fellow junior Brianna Rodriguez currently ranks second in the national poll as she records .54 doubles per game. The Rowlett High School product has racked up 14 doubles in 26 games this season. Rodriguez also ranks third on the squad with a .376 batting average and 32 hits.
From the circle, Senior Kylie Roos (6-1) has allowed just 12 runs in 51.1 innings for a 1.50 ERA. Roos has struck out 62 while allowing just 26 hits.
The Lady Demons went 2-1 in the recent SLC series with Nicholls State last weekend. NSU fell to the Colonels 6-4 in the opening game, but bounced back quickly with a 4-3 win on Saturday, followed by a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon.
With the win on Sunday, the Lady Demons earned their 20th victory of the season, surpassing the 19 total wins achieved last season.
Jackson State is led by Jasmine Warren, who spots a ,325 average from the plate, putting the ball into play 27 times., followed by Sabeana Romero with a .286 batting average and 22 hits.
Breea Jamerson (9-13) has thrown 132.1 innings from the circle, striking out 61 and allowing 128 hits.
The Lady Tigers fell to UTEP 7-11 on Sunday at the Jackson State University tournament.
NSU will return to Southland Conference play this weekend for a three-game series at Texas A&M Corpus Christi beginning on Saturday at one o'clock.
