NATCHITOCHES –Northwestern State Lady Demons basketball greats Linda Grayson and Pam Hudson have been named to the 20-person Southland Conference All-Decade Team for the 1980's, announced Tuesday as a part of the league's year-long 50th Anniversary commemoration.
 
They are two of only four Lady Demons to have their jersey number retired.  Grayson's 33 and Hudson's 45 both hang from the ceiling of Prather Coliseum. Both are enshrined in the Graduate N Club Hall of Fame at NSU.
 
They teamed up on the 1988-89 squad that went 22-8 and earned an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament after regular-season wins over Texas A&M, Southern Mississippi and Missouri and splitting the regular-season series with rival Stephen F. Austin, which was ranked No. 11 nationally when the Lady Demons prevailed 78-76 in 1989.
 
Grayson, a Natchitoches native, averaged 17.5 points a game in her career, scoring 2,028 points in 116 games.  She is the only player in NSU's history with over 2,000 points.
 
She was a 1988 Women's Basketball News All-American when she averaged 27.8 points game.  Her 779 points that season ranks as the second-most for a season. She was the team leader in points, rebounds (13.5 pg), blocks (1.3 pg), and steals (2.3 pg) and led all of Division I in scoring as well.
 
Grayson and Joskeen Garner are the only players from Northwestern State that are in the 1,000-point/1,000-rebound club.  Grayson finished her career with 1,122 boards. 
 
The 6-1 forward scored 40 or more points in two games, both against Texas State.  She scored 40 on Feb. 4, 1988 and scored 47, a school record at the time, only seven days later.
 
Hudson, a Shady Grove product who was a junior transfer from Kilgore Junior College, led the team in scoring her first season at Northwestern State after joining the team four games into the season. 
 
In her second season, she set the all-time mark for points in a season with 829 in 29 games for a scoring average of 28.6, which also tops the Lady Demons program and ranked second in the country.  The 5-11 forward was the nation's leading rebounder (15.1 per game, also a school season record) and remains the only player under 6-0 to lead NCAA Division I in rebounding.
 
"The Hud" was named a second-team U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-American for 1989-90 and was All-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana in both her seasons as a Lady Demons.
 
In school history, she ranks 12th in career scoring (1,363), but first in career scoring average (24.8). She averaged a double-double over her entire career adding 12.6 rebounds to her impressive resume.
 
Her field goal percentage continues to sit atop the Lady Demons record books hitting 61 percent of her shots over her career. She set the single-game scoring record with 48 points at McNeese as a senior, making 20 of 23 shots from the field while shooting nothing closer than five feet.
 
The Southland will announce the 1980s men's basketball team Wednesday, and the 1990s and 2000s men's and women's teams next week.
