NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State women's basketball team will take a break from Southland Conference action Saturday when it takes on the New Orleans Lady Privateers at noon in Prather Coliseum.
The contest has been designated as the Lady Demons' (10-15) annual Play 4Kay game in which the players and coaches will wear pink during the game. The event is a national fundraising campaign in the memory Kay Yow, a former North Carolina State coach that was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987.
NSU will play its first home game after a three-game road stint in which it finished with it finished with 1-2 record. UNO (3-20) is coming off an 82-57 loss to Texas-Arlington Wednesday night.
The two teams faced off in the first game of the season for both programs, and the Lady Demons came out on top 53-52.
Jasmine Upchurch, who will play in the 100th game of her career, leads the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game. She scored 19 points in her last outing against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in NSU's first win on the road.
Keisha Lee, who has averaged 15.9 points a contest in the last 10 games, is second on the team in scoring with 11.4 scores a game.
Keri Thomas leads the Lady Privateers in scoring with 14.7 points a game followed by Mirjam Sipos who averages 9.4 a game.
Northwestern State will return to the floor on March 2 at Stephen F. Austin looking to lock up a Southland Conference tournament spot.
