Demon Hoop Squad encourages local kids to excel in school

10/28/2013 3:27:00 PM

Northwestern State Demon basketball team membeers recently visited Parks Elementary in Natchitoches to bring positive messages to students regarding the importance of education.

Their visit was part of the Stay In to Win initiative created by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, promoting the concept that success in school is a key to success in life. The program encourages career planning and discourages dropping out of school. NSU's head coach, Mike McConathy, won the NABC's prestigious Guardian of the Game Award for education in 2012 and continues to stress to his players and all students the importance of making the most of educational opportunities day by day.
