Box Score BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar's Dominique Edwards career-high tying 21 points coupled with 27.5 percent shooting from the Northwestern State women's basketball team led to a 53-34 loss for the Lady Demons Thursday night in Southland Conference action.
 
NSU (7-12, 3-6 SLC) was 14-51 from the floor including 1-10 from behind the 3-point line. Lamar (13-6, 6-3 SLC) finished the game 19-41 (46.3 percent) and hit 10 of 16 in the first half.
 
Edwards scored 19 of her points in the opening frame hitting all six of her shots with two from behind the arc. She finished the game 7-10 from the field.
 
“I don't think our mental focus and energy was where it needed to be, or where I want it to be,” said co-head coach Brooke Stoehr. “Our play today was indicative of that. That's part of this process, and as we grow and mature as a team we've got to be better from a mental focus, energy, and intensity standpoint.”
 
Jasmine Upchurch led NSU in scoring with 13 points for her third straight double-figure game. She scored 11 in the second half. Keisha Lee finished with nine points and Janelle Perez finished with four.
 
Jasmine Bradley led the team in rebounds with seven, and Upchurch grabbed six.
 
Kalis Loyd, the league's leading scorer at 18.7 points a game, was held to six, but she led all players with eight rebounds. Edwards and Alice Robinson each finished with six boards.
 
The Lady Demons forced 25 turnovers which ranks as the most since NSU took on Ole Miss on Nov. 16. Lamar came into the game only averaging 16.6 a game.
 
The Lady Demons will return to the court at McNeese State on Sunday at 1:30 in the Lake Charles Civic Center.
