NATCHITOCHES – Following a comeback win behind
Keisha Lee's 22 points, the Northwestern State women's basketball will continue its home stand with Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock in Southland Conference action.
NSU (6-10, 2-4 SLC) erased a 10-point deficit with less than 13 minutes to play to overcome Nicholls State on Thursday. Lee's 22 points claimed a career high as well as her nine rebounds.
Southeastern Louisiana (7-9, 0-5 SLC) lost on the road to Stephen F. Austin 80-38 Thursday after turning the ball over 30 times.
“Southeastern is an athletic, difficult match-up,” said co-head coach
Brooke Stoehr. “They're going to run, press, and look to get up and down. They are going really try to disrupt the things we do offensively, so we have to value the basketball and attack their pressure with our pressure.
“When you make them play a tempo that they are not used to, it bothers them,” she said. “It's always good to have a team like that at home when you face them for the first time."
Jasmine Upchurch, who finished Thursday with nine points and six rebounds, leads the team in points (11.6) and rebounds (6.2) a game. Janelle Perez pushed her points average to 10.3 after scoring 14 against Nicholls.
Aja Gibson leads the Lady Lions in scoring with 11.1 a game. Brandi Simmons is second in points (10.3) and first in rebounds (8.8) a game.
After the game with SLU, the Lady Demons will have a week off before they play Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 26 to finish the three-game home stand
