LAFAYETTE –
Janae Allen swept the women's hammer and discus events Saturday, accounting for two of eight wins and 20 top-three finishes for Northwestern State at the Cole-Lancon Invitational track and field meet hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette.
The event was the final competition for NSU before the May 11-13 Southland Conference Championships.
Allen approached but did not top season bests as she captured titles in the hammer (164-2) and discus (150-5), with teammates
Shakemia Johnson throwing 136-9 for second in the discus, and
Keona Jackson marking 151-10 for third in the hammer.
Chantel Bratton took the shot put title with a 45-10 ¾ best and teammate
Keona Jackson was runner-up (44-8 ¼).
Aaron Williams won the men's triple jump at 46-0 ¾ with his twin brother Emmanuel second (44-11 ¾). NSU's
Jerrica Tillery (38-2) and
Sarah Jones (37-6 ¾) went 2-3 in the women's triple.
Sarah Emory gave the Lady Demons a win in the 5000 with an 18:24.51 time.
Consuela Lindsay ran 1:00.89 to take the women's 400 meter hurdles.
The Demons swept the relays, starting with a 41.06 clocking in the 4x100 meter race from Trey Hatton,
Karllis Perry,
Kendal Taylor and
Keenan Jackson.
NSU's
D.J. Beyette, Taylor,
Travis Plumb and Jackson ran alone in the men's 4x400 relay to take first in the day's final race in 3:22.45.
Constance Seibles was the women's 200 meter runner up in 24.85. Antwone Dobbin gave the Demons a second-place 1:57.03 time in the 800.
The Lady Demons ran second in the 4x100 relay in 46.82 registered by
Angelica Kotun, Lindsay, Seibles and
Quiana Griffin. The 4x400 relay was not contested, along with the women's 100 meter hurdles and the men's high jump, as teams from NSU, ULL and Nicholls along with some unattached athletes took part.
P.J. Bennett ran 14.76 for third overall, but best among collegiate finishers, in the men's 110 meter hurdles.
Albert Gladney (4:05.85) and
Chris Lanier (4:14.91) went 2-3 in the men's 1500.
Karensa Ellis ran 4:45.28 for third in the women's 1500.
