NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State's current string of nine games in 12 days continues on Tuesday when the Demons visit Tulane at 3 p.m. before returning to Brown-Stroud Field on Wednesday at 6:30 against Louisiana-Monroe to begin a four-game homestand.
The Demons (14-23) are coming off a three-game Southland Conference sweep at the hands of Texas-Arlington and have now lost six straight and nine of their last 11 games. Tulane (26-14) dropped three games over the weekend to 15
th-ranked Central Florida by a combined four runs. The Green Wave are 20-6 at home and a perfect 4-0 against members of the Southland Conference (3-0 vs. Southeastern Louisiana and 1-0 vs. Nicholls).
ULM is 19-21 on the season and took two out of three games against Middle Tennessee this past weekend.
The Demons are expected to start sophomore righty
Jacob Roark (2-3, 4.53 ERA) against Tulane. This will be Roark's 10
th start of the season and has thrown 45.2 innings with 33 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Demons are hitting .257 as a team and led by left fielder
Will Watson who has a .313 batting average. First baseman
Nick Hinojos follows with a .305 mark with a team-high four home runs and 27 runs batted in while center fielder
Drew Helenihi is hitting .304.
The Green Wave are batting .317 as a team as seven regular starters are hitting .300 or above. First baseman Sean Potkay leads the way with a .387 mark with three homers and 25 RBI as right fielder Nick Schneeberger is hitting .379 with four home runs and 37 runs batted in. Catcher Jeremy Schaffer tops the team with nine homers hit to go along with 36 RBI.
Tulane is expected to start Alex Byo on the mound on Tuesday. Byo is 5-3 with a 3.49 ERA. He'll be making his 10
th start of the season and has thrown 56.2 innings with 30 strikeouts.
ULM will enter Wednesday's contest hitting .259 as a team and led by Joey Rapp's .333 average. Rapp also leads the Warhawks with seven homers and 33 RBI.
Following Wednesday's game, the Demons will return to conference action on Friday when they open a three-game series at home against Southeastern Louisiana.
