ARLINGTON, Texas – Having not allowed a run in the last 20 innings, the Northwestern State softball team will look to extend its three-game winning streak over the weekend with a two-game series at Texas-Arlington.
NSU (16-23, 4-8 SLC) and UTA (12-18, 2-6 SLC) will square off at 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The Lady Demons have held opponents to just one hit in all three games of the streak. Kylie Roos posted two of the one-hitters and Brooke Boening registered the other. NSU defeated Stephen F. Austin 3-0 and 8-0 (6) on Friday and Saturday, and knocked off La. Tech 3-0 on Tuesday.
Roos leads the team with a 3.47 ERA and three complete-game shutouts on the season. She has a team-best 2.27 ERA against SLC opponents and holds batters to just a .223 average.
The pitching staff has continued to pile up the strikeouts, and rank second in the conference averaging 6.74 K's per game.
At the plate, Cali Burke ranks 10th in the SLC with a .360 average and is hitting .400 in conference play. Samantha Roberts places third in the conference in homers with seven on the year and is sixth in slugging percentage at a .581 mark. Roberts also enters the contest on an eight-game hitting streak.
The Mavs dropped a pair to McNeese State in their last outing. Pitching has been their strength as Teri Lyles leads the team with a 2.50 ERA in 106.1 innings and Callie Collins holds a 2.81 ERA in 87.1 innings.
Senior Erica LaFlore is UTA's big threat at the plate as she leads the team with four homers, 13 RBI, .547 slugging and .444 on-base percentage. She hits for a .297 batting average.
The series marks the start of a six-game road trip for NSU. The team will play a doubleheader at Alcorn State on Tuesday, followed by a two-game series at Nicholls State the following weekend.
