Box Score NORMAN, Okla. - Three-pointers and No. 12-ranked Oklahoma's stingy defense led the Sooners past Northwestern State 96-35 Thursday night in women's basketball action.

The Sooners (6-1) came into the game making just fewer than nine 3-pointers a game which ranked seventh in the country. Oklahoma hit 13 3-pointers against the Lady Demons (4-3), which is the most since Sam Houston scored 15 against NSU in 2004.

“We took this game for a reason knowing that we were going to expose our players to a championship environment in how they (OU) carry themselves and how they compete on every single possession no matter what the score is,” said first year co-head coach Brooke Stoehr. “There are just some things that when you're establishing and building a culture that you want to expose your players to.

“There were some valuable, valuable teaching moments and points in that,” she said. “We were able to even talk about some during halftime. We've got some great film we can use to teach them, but I think the environment and to see how those players talk and compete will be more beneficial.”

The Sooners as a team shot just over 57 percent from the field and 65 percent from behind the arc. Northwestern State shot 26 percent and 22.2 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Oklahoma led NSU in rebounding 44-25 and forced 24 turnovers while only giving the ball up 12 times.

Aaryn Ellenberg, who was named Naismith Women's Basketball Player of the Year watch list, finished the game with 22 points, six steals, five rebounds, and four assists. She was 8-13 from the field and 5-7 from behind the 3-point line.

Nicole Kournet (19), Nicole Griffin (12), and Morgan Hook (10) all scored in double-figures. Joanna McFarland had 11 rebounds and Portia Durrett had eight.

For NSU, Tiandra Williams scored 10 points just ahead of Jasmine Upchurch who scored nine and Janelle Perez and Jasmine Bradley who each had seven.

It was the largest margin of defeat for the Lady Demons and the lowest score in the 39-year history of the program.

Northwestern State will return to Prather Coliseum Tuesday night at 5:30 when they take on Prairie View A&M. It is the first half of a double-header with the Demon basketball team that takes on in-state rival Louisiana Tech.
