Coaching Experience: He coached five U16 international players for England RL (Rugby League) while he was the scholarship/academy strength & conditioning coach for the Huddersfield Giants rugby teams, handling duties for the under 15, 16, 18 and 20 squads from October 2010 until May 2012. From August 2009-April 2011, he was an assistant football coach for Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds, England, after serving in the same capacity in 2008-09 for the University of Huddersfield. Wardell is Level 1 certified through USA Weightlifting.
Competitive Career: In 2011-12, he was team captain and starting linebacker and running back for Leeds Metropolitan University in the British University American Football League. In 2010, he was the starting cornerback for the Vanecia Firebats, who played in the Liga de Nacional de Futbol Americano in Spain, a semi-pro league. In 2007, 2009 and 2010 he played cornerback and safety for the Coventry Jets in the amateur British American Football League. He started in Britbowl XXIII (2009) and XXIV (2010) as the Jets were league finalists. Wardell was a starting cornerback in 2008 for the Lions Bergamo in the semi-pro Italian Football League. Across the pond, he was a defensive back in 2008 for Iowa Central Community College and in 2007 for Southwest Minnesota State (NCAA Division II). Wardell also started at receiver and defensive back in 2005-06 and 2008 for the Yorkshire Rams in the BAFL, and in 2004 for the Junior Rams when he was chosen for NFL Europe Youth Development Camps as a receiver, running back and defensive back. In 2004-05, he was selected for Team England Youth in the British American Football National Programme as a starting free safety.
Personal: Wardell graduated with honors with an upper second bachelor of sciences degree in sports coaching. He also attended Southwest Minnesota State and Iowa Central Community College. His hometown is Huddersfield, England.
