Cooda Dobin

    Perhaps the best point guard to ever don a Northwestern State Lady Demon basketball uniform will be back on the sideline in Prather Coliseum this year as LaTerrica “Cooda” Dobin has joined Jennifer Graf’s basketball staff.
     Dobin, a 2003 graduate of Northwestern State, returns to her alma mater after a brief professional career and two years of high school coaching at Captain Shreve High School.
    After her time as at player at NSU, Dobin played semi-pro ball for the Dallas Crest in 2003 and average seven points and eight assists.  From there, she played the 2004-05 and 2007-08 seasons with the Louisiana All-Stars.  She averaged 10 points and seven assists her first go around with the squad and then 15 points and nine assists in ’07-’08.
     In 2008, she joined the staff of Captain Shreve where she compiled a two-year mark of 19-29.
     While playing at NSU, Dobin became the Lady Demons’ all-time career assist leader with 921 dishes.  She also became the first player in NCAA history, men or women, to lead the nation in assists per game for three straight seasons.  She was featured in the NCAA Final Four official program for the 2004 Women’s Final Four.
     She was a three-time first team All-Southland Conference selection (2002-04) and three-time first team All-Louisiana member (2002-04).
     As a member of the 2003-04 team, her senior year, Dobin helped guide the Lady Demons to the Southland Conference regular season and tournament championships.  It was the first tourney title in school history as the Lady Demons qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
     That team finished with an overall record of 24-7 and 14-2 in league play.  NSU started out the conference slate with an 11-0 mark before dropping its first game.
     Dobin ranked second on the team in scoring that season with a 16.0 ppg average and topped the team with 249 assists for a 9.6 per game mark.  She scored in double-digits 23 times and netted 20 or more points 10 times.  She also dished out 10 or more assists 12 times which led to 11 double-double games.
     As a junior, Dobin dished out what is still a single-game school record 20 assists against Idaho State on Dec. 7, 2002. 
     In addition to topping the school record list in career assists, Dobin currently ranks 14th on NSU’s all-time career scoring list with 1,351 points and is third with 283 career assists.  She is also ranked Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the single-season assists per game record list.  Her 10.3 per game average as a junior tops the list while her 9.6 mark as a senior is second and 8.6 per game number as a sophomore is third.
     Born Dec. 1, 1981, Dobin, a Bossier City native, is a graduate of Evangel High School where she earned all-district honors her sophomore through senior seasons.  She was named all-state honorable mention as a junior and all-state as a senior.  She averaged 25 points her senior season to go along with eight assists and eight rebounds while leading her team to the second round of the state playoffs for the second straight season.  She was also an all-district performer in track and softball.
     The daughter of Cindy and Carlos Manning, Dobin is the proud mother of 1-year old King LaTerrance Dobin, who already has a basketball in his hands.
