Rick McCormick knows what it means to achieve at the college level. His coaching achievements while a head coach at Union University seem to run on forever. Simply put, McCormick wins and wins with style.

McCormick when to Union University (NAIA Division I) after one-year stint as assistant coach at Division I Oral Roberts. He took over a mediocre program and turned it into something special. In his five seasons at Union, McCormick was able to win 92 games, an average of over 18 wins per season. He posted the school's second best record ever in 1992-93 when the Bulldogs went 22-9 and were ranked in the NAIA Top 25.

This season before had truly been a stellar year for McCormick and his Bulldogs, who won the NAIA District 24 Championship and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. McCormick won District 24 Coach of the Year honors.  This was only the second trip to the national tournament for Union with the first coming back in 1958.

McCormick also produced back-to-back NAIA All-Americans, the only two in school history. He was able to do this while building a program that graduated over 90 percent of its players. That's the best testimony about the type of players McCormick will be seeking as  a Demon assistant coach.

The strength of a coach can also be measured in how many big games he can get his squad to win. McCormick certainly led his Bulldogs to several huge wins. Competing in one of the country's most heralded NAIA districts, McCormick's Bulldogs left a mark. The biggest came in 1990-91 when Union rolled over NAIA's No. 1-ranked team. David Lipscomb, by 16 points.

In his past five seasons at Union University are any indication of the kind of success he will achieve in the future, Northwestern State and Rick McCormick should complement each other quite nicely.
