Michael Gargin enters his second season with the Demons program, having graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N.Y., in 2013.
A New Jersey native, Gargin spent four years working as a student assistant with the Bonnies men’s basketball team and was part of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Tournament championship team that participated in the NCAA Tournament’s second round. Gargin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing with a minor in sports management from St. Bonaventure. He is enrolled in the Master of Science program, pursuing a degree in health and human performance.
Gargin was involved with the development of 2012 NBA first-round draft pick Andrew Nicholson (Orlando). He also has worked with a number of overseas players including 2014 Demon senior Brison White and St. Bonaventure’s Ogo Adegboye, who competes with the Great Britain national team. With the Bonnies, Gargin’s responsibilities ranged from practice set up and break down, film exchange and scout work, travel arrangements and the directing of his fellow student assistants.
In the summer of 2014, Gargin interned in the Charlotte Hornets’ basketball operations department where he assisted with player development workouts with players and coaches, including Patrick Ewing, Mark Price, Kemba Walker, Al Jefferson and more. Gargin also evaluated 2014 NBA draftees, handled daily administration and statistical work and evaluated summer league workouts. In the spring, Gargin represented the NSU program at the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, working the NBA Jam Fest, an event that gives back to the host community through fun, interactive activities.
Gargin has worked summer camps at Duke, Virginia, Princeton, Rider and Marist. In 2014, he was the associate camp director at the Mark Schmidt Basketball Camp at St. Bonaventure, which saw a 30-percent rise in enrollment since 2012.
In the summer of 2012, Gargin worked with Hoop Group Elite, a highly respected exposure camp in Reading, Pa. Gargin was heavily involved in the collecting and recording of information profiles on more than 2,500 student athletes at a camp attended by NCAA Division I, II and III coaching staffs.
Michael is the son of Frank and Alice Gargin and has one older brother, a twin sister and a younger sister.
