Micah Coleman understands what Coach Mike McConathy means when he says that "I was taught that hard work is a good and honorable thing."

That became clear as Coleman made a seamless transition onto the Demon coaching staff as a graduate assistant last season. He fulfilled his role perfectly and in his first season as a college coach, he rolled with the Demons all the way to the Big Dance, the NCAA Tournament.

The humble native of Starks, La. quickly won the admiration fo this fellow coaches for his willingness to learn, his work ethic and his organizational skills.

"There is no doubt this is a dream come true for me.  I am thankful to be working at my alma mater and to be working for a man like Coach McConathy," he said.

In August, Coleman was rewarded with a promotion to assistant coach when yeoman Joe Peterson departed after two contrubition-rich seasons in the program.

While handling a wide array of responsibilities, including camp director, scouting, video coordinator, on-floor coaching, and underclass recruiting, Coleman's trademark is his dyed purple-in-the wool love for his alma mater.

Prior to joining the NSU program, Coleman taught for one year in nearby Negreet, located in the basketball hotbed of Sabine Parish. During the summer prior to that year and following that school term, he coached a 17-and-under AAU basketball team that competed in the state tournament.

As a player, Coleman twice was an all-district selection as a guard as Starks High School won two district championships and advanced to the state Class B playoffs.

Coleman was also a two-year letterwinner in track and field
