There's a lot of jokes going around concerning Ed Lansford, one of the newcomers to the NSU basketball coaching staff. Most of them are by Lansford himself, which proves that all successful people don't necessarily take themselves too seriously.
Lansford's coaching experience is limited at best, which is part of the reason he is at NSU. So what if his only stint of drawing up x's and o's came in a private recreation league? He won often enough and enjoyed that experience to push for more.
The 1982 graduate of William and Mary played tailback for the Tribe, dropping off of that squad in favor of the rifle team. The appeal of rough and tough rugby was next, leading into the one mile swimming, 25 mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run, his name never appears in the agate anywhere near the top.
His return to the south is not unprecedented as he was born in El Paso, Texas, living there for the first 13 months of this life. He holds an economics degree from William and Mary and is close to completing his masters degree in exercise physiology.
Lansford's coaching philosophy? "Win, but not at all costs." He explains his theory further, saying "this involves getting the best coaches, the best recruiting classes from year to year, and playing the worst opponents."
