Duggar Baucom

Duggar Baucom comes from the cradle of college basketball, the rolling hiss of Tobacco Row in North Carolina.

And his personality is reminiscent of the dominant coach of that place and time -- Dean Smith of North Carolina.

Like Smith, Baucom has a warm, winning way about him. He's not bubbly, but always friendly. He goes about his job quietly, humbly, with a true appreciation for the game of basketball.

Baucom joined the Demon staff in August after two years at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. hE previously worked at Davidson College as an assistant coach, along with five years as an assistant coach on the high school level at North Mecklenburg High in Huntersville, N.C.

Baucom was also a very successful head coach in the AAU circles, guiding the Charlotte (N.C.) Royals to the national tournament from 1992-94.

At Mars Hill, he handled on-floor coaching duties, scouting, film exchange and editing, scheduling and coordination of recruiting. He developed and ran the preseason and offseason condtitioning and strength programs. He was responsible for team travel and supervised the team managers.

Baucom also handled marekting and promotions for the basketball program and oversaw all phases of player relations, including study hall and other academic support programs.

At Davidson under coach Bob McKillop in 1995-96, he handled team travel, helped with film exchange and editing, contributed to scheduling and recruiting, and supervised the team managers. He oversaw promortional activities and coordinated the Junior Wildcat Club and community service projects.

He also handled academic support duties and helped monitor the offseason and preseason strength and conditioning program.

Baucom, a graduate of north Carolina-Charlotte in history with a 3.35 grade point average, has been part of the camp staff at the Mugsy Bogues Charlotte Hornets Basketball Camp, the Davidson College Wildcat Basketball Camp, the Campbell Basketball School, the Prep Stars Invitational Basketball Camp and the Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp.

He is engaged to Sherry Brown, and assistant women's basketball coach at Mars Hill College.
