After a lifetime around NSU Athletics, Norman Hicks officially joined the Demon football staff in the spring 2015 semester after being a constant, helpful presence around coach Jay Thomas and predecessors for years. He has been front-and-center helping with cookouts, fundraisers and other endeavors. He has been a cornerstone of the Coaches Cabinet Association supporting NSU football and is the current CCA president.
Hicks was presented the third annual Joe Delaney Distinguished Supporter Award at the 2015 Legends Dinner recognizing his remarkable involvement with NSU Athletics and especially the Demon football program. With the exception of two years, he has spent his life in and around Natchitoches and with Demon pride instilled by his father, Hicks has missed only about a half-dozen home football games since the late 1950s, and has made countless road trips, rarely missing a game for the past several seasons.
Hicks enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1965 and served 35 years. He was an active duty National Guard recruiter for the last 20 years. Prior to active duty, he worked for 18 years with the state Office of Family Security.
A Robeline native, Hicks graduated from Robeline High School in May 1959 as a four-year basketball letterman. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social science education in 1963. He has six children, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He’s known as “Norm.”
