Jordan Hopkins joined the Northwestern State staff as its new defensive line coach in March 2022, giving head coach Brad Laird an assistant familiar with a former Demon head coach.
Hopkins brings with him experience within the Southland Conference, having coached at Lamar for three seasons. While at Lamar, he worked with the team’s linebackers and safeties as a volunteer assistant coach and a graduate assistant, helping the Cardinals rank in the top 10 in the FCS in takeaways in both 2017 and 2018.
In 2018, Hopkins was part of the Lamar staff that helped push the Cardinals to the first FCS playoff berth in school history.
Hopkins spent the 2021 season as a defensive line graduate assistant at Tulane and the 2020 season at ULM in the same position. During that time, he recruited parts of both Louisiana and Texas as well as California junior colleges. In between, he worked under former Northwestern State head coach Bradley Dale Peveto as a defensive line graduate assistant at the University of Texas-El Paso.
Prior to joining the collegiate coaching ranks, Hopkins was an assistant coach at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, Texas, helping lead the Tigers to six straight UIL playoff berths, including a 2014 Class 6A quarterfinal appearance.
