Former UTSA team captain Jalen Rhodes is in his second season on the Northwestern State staff, working with the NSU running backs.
In his first season, Rhodes helped junior transfer Scooter Adams earn first-team All-Southland Conference honors while Scott and freshman Aubrey Scott gave the Demon backfield a talented 1-2 punch.
A two-year captain for the Roadrunners, Rhodes rushed for 1,996 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding 47 career receptions for 379 yards and two scores. Off the field, Rhodes was a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his community service efforts, which included founding a nonprofit organization (H.O.P.E.) to develop and ensure a better future for inner city and urban youth.
A 2017 UTSA graduate in communication, Rhodes began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2019, coaching running backs and serving as the team’s video coordinator. He also was responsible for recruiting Michigan, Texas, Louisiana and Florida.Â
He also has experience training athletes at 2TenDevelopment and Alamo City All Stars in San Antonio.
Rhodes is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education administration at Northwestern State.Â
