Derrick Berry is in his first season as part of the Northwestern State coaching staff, assisting with the linebackers.
Berry will assist defensive coordinator Weston Glaser with his primary position after also assisting with the interior defensive line and special teams during spring practices. He is responsible for recruiting East Texas north of Interstate 20.
Berry comes to Northwestern State following a two-year stint as the linebackers coach at Mayville State, an NAIA school in Mayville, North Dakota, where he also was the assistant recruiting coordinator.
At Mayville, Berry coordinated the offensive scout team, was responsible for analysis and breakdown of opponents’ run games and was the academic advisor.
Prior to coming to the college ranks, Berry spent two seasons as an assistant coach at New Richmond High School in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
Berry played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, UW-Platteville and Central Lakes College.
A 2018 economics and business administration graduate of UW-River Falls, Berry is pursuing his second master’s degree at NSU, majoring in health and human performance.
