Strength and Conditioning Mission

It should be our mission as the strength and conditioning staff to use our knowledge in the field of human performance to accomplish the following ten objectives:

  1. Mitigate the troublesome injury situation that has plagued many sports recently, by improved relations with the sports medicine department, and implementing scientific well-planned periodization with the ability to adapt based on any accommodations we may witness during any given training block. Consistent application of force and/or velocity needs to be applied in each block.

  2. Create an environment through logistical improvements and education where the student athlete is inclined to have an improved diet and rest pattern. This is critical for the stresses placed upon them by the mental and physical demands (both neural and muscular) of their respective sport, and hectic academic schedules.

  3. Develop a setting through the proper use of periodization and the overload principal where athletes can and should reach their ultimate physical potential.

  4. Guarantee that the Strength and Conditioning staff is well educated, professional, and attune to the needs of "Demon" student athletes.

  5. Teach athletes proper movement patterns on the field and court, to enhance directional change abilities and minimize the chance of non-contact related knee and ankle injuries.

  6. Build confidence in the student-athlete, as they see and feel improvements in their physique and movement capabilities.

  7. Teach and monitor correct exercise techniques in all facets of resistance training in the weight-room

  8. Ensure student-athlete welfare in the weight facility by ensuring they use up to date, properly maintained, modern equipment in a setting that is not rushed or over-crowded.

  9. Train student-athletes to endure hardships and possess a strong will to win in a controlled, safe, yet highly demanding setting. Stretch their comfort zone. Make them feel comfortable being uncomfortable.

  10. Provide a weight-room facility that is visually appealing, organized, clean, and conducive to recruiting today's 17-19 year old student-athletes.
