Perkins learned a new position in spring practice and impressed coaches with his development at center. He played tight end last year and defensive end previously. He is also an option and has experience as a deep snapper. He initially didn't plan to play this fall after the coaching change, but reconsidered and figures to play a significant role in 2009.
2008: Did not see action in any games.
2007: Action in four games (Henderson State, Central Arkansas, at Northeastern, and at Nicholls State).
2006: Saw limited action in three games (at Baylor, at Southeastern La., and vs. McNeese State).
2005: Redshirted.
Perkins in High School: All-Region Class 6-4A selection his senior year after posting 88 tackles, 5 for loss, and 3 interceptions along with 3 fumble recoveries ... team went 14-1 and won the Class 4A state championship ... his brother, Jesse, played college football at Belhaven. Nicknamed “Smoke” ... leadoff hitter and an outfielder on the Brookhaven baseball team ... member of the BHS honor roll and FCA.
Perkins' Personal: Born Nov. 7, 1986... son of DJuana Perkins.. one brother, Jesse Perkins and a sister, Tenaya Williams... majoring in computer information systems… full name is Darius Dorsean Perkins… nickname is “Perk.”
Much like his big brother Justin, Kevin Perry has the attributes which should make him a productive player at safety, where he will be a backup this fall while fitting into nickel packages. He had a very good spring practice.
