NATCHITOCHES – For the third straight year, Northwestern State's student-athletes enjoyed increased representation on the Southland Conference Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll.
The list, which honors student-athletes who produce a 3.0 grade point average or higher during their semester of competition, was announced Wednesday by the conference office. For Northwestern, the grouping includes student-athletes from seven programs – baseball, men's and women's basketball, softball, tennis and men's and women's track and field.
Northwestern placed 130 of its 180 spring student-athletes on the honor roll, a 72.2 percent rate, which is a nearly 1.5 percent increase over the 2025 totals. Since 2023, the Demons have seen their numbers increase each year, highlighted by a 12-athlete jump from 2024 to 2025.
More than one-quarter of the 130 qualifiers held a 4.0 in the spring semester.
The Demon baseball program led the way in 4.0s with 10 players posting that number. Women's track and field had seven perfect marks, followed by tennis' six 4.0s. Men's track and field (4), softball (3), women's basketball (2) and men's basketball (1) all had student-athletes hit the 4.0 mark.
In addition to the 33 perfect GPAs, 85 student-athletes maintained at least a 3.5 GPA in the spring, which accounted for 30 percent of all NSU student-athletes.
Tennis placed all nine of its student-athletes on the honor roll, collecting a perfect score for the fourth time in five years.
Additional teams who saw an increase from 2025 to 2026 were softball (83.3 percent from 78.95) and baseball (78.1 percent from 73.5).
Baseball's 32 honor roll members were the most of any Northwestern program while women's track and field (29), men's track and field (22) and softball (20) had at least 20 members on the honor roll.
In addition to tennis, softball and baseball, women's track and field (72.5) and men's basketball (71.4) placed at least 70 percent of their rosters on the honor roll.
