Demons round out weekend at AMCC, aiming for big road win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—After another impressive victory in front of the home crowd, Northwestern State aims to find a way to bring that magic on the road, as it wraps up the weekend with a road trip to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday.

Kickoff is at noon and will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Demons (6-6, 3-1) continued their brilliance at home last time out in a 3-1 comeback win over East Texas A&M and now aim to see if they can replicate that same confident play as they head on the road.

"This another tough road game and tough place to play," head coach Ian Brophy said. "They had a big win recently against Southeastern, so we know it is going to be a dogfight.

"It will be a test for us about whether we can replicate what we've been able to do at home when we go on the road. A road conference win would be huge."

NSU aims for its first 4-1 start in Southland Conference play since 2021, a season that the Demons won both the regular season and tournament championships.

The resilient Demons fell behind in the third minute after an East Texas A&M goal in the box, but like they have many times this season, NSU came back and earned the victory.

The comeback win is the third such win for the Demons this season after recording two comeback triumphs in Brophy's first three seasons as head coach.

In the victory over East Texas A&M, the Demons had four assists, which put their season total at 44 this season, tying the school record for assists in a season.
It is also third in the country, only trailing Purdue and Vanderbilt.

With a goal from Iesha Rollins and assist from Kendall Hemperley in the victory over East Texas A&M, the Demons now have six players with at least 10 points, the most since 2005 when eight recorded double-digit points.

After scoring two goals in their first five games, the Demons have found the back of the net 42 times in the last seven contests and scored multiple times in six of those seven, as the offensive chemistry has improved each game.

"The chemistry has really grown over the games," junior forward Marissa Henderson said. "There were a lot of changes at the start of the year with the new players coming in, but the chemistry has grown as the season has gone on and even my chemistry with my teammates is stronger."

Senior Emily Gundin has been the catalyst in the offense during Southland play, as she has six points with two goals and two assists, recording at least one point in three of the four conference games so far.

She scored three points and dished out seven assists in her first three seasons in Natchitoches and already has seven goals and six assists in 2026. Her six points in league play is tied for first in the Southland.

AMCC is coming off a 3-0 loss on the road to UIW, one that saw the Islanders fall behind early and never recover.

Offensively, the Islanders are led by Katie Porter, who has scored seven of AMCC's 16 goals this season. Her seven goals are tied for the second-most in the Southland and her 16 points are tied for fourth.

Following the match, the Demons come back home for a revenge game against Houston Christian on Thursday, the same team that knocked off NSU in the SLC Tournament a season ago.
