NSU sees another boost in SLC Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll

NATCHITOCHES – Another spring semester, another sizable jump for Northwestern State on the Southland Conference Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll.
 
Released Monday morning, Northwestern placed 126 student-athletes on the 2025 edition of the spring honor roll, an increase of 10.5 percent from the 2024 edition. The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who maintained a 3.0 grade point average or better during their season of competition.
 
The department placed 70.8 percent of its student-athletes on the commissioner's honor roll, its highest percentage of spring sports athletes since at least 2018.
 
Thirty-six spring student-athletes produced a perfect 4.0 grade point average led by 11 baseball players. The 36 perfect GPAs were the third most since the spring 2021 semester.
 
From a team standpoint, the Northwestern tennis team placed 87.5 percent of its performers on the honor roll, the highest percentage for an individual team. The Demon men's basketball team saw the most sizeable increase, placing 73.3 percent of its 15-player roster on the honor roll. That marked an increase of nearly 35 percent from the 2024 list.
 
Also seeing an increase in percentage of competitors on the honor roll were women's basketball (56.25 percent, plus-6.25 percent) and the three-time indoor and two-time outdoor champion women's track and field program (73.53 percent, plus-5.79 percent).
 
The 36 student-athletes who posted 4.0 GPAs were baseball's JC Acosta, Lathen Buzard, Austin Ellis, Colton Harrison, Trent Hillen, Clay Jung, Hayden Knotts, Reese Lipoma, Aidan Newton, Carter White and Connor Wilson; women's track and field's Madison Brown, Sileena Farrell, Silet Gray, Briana Green, Shanice Hutson, Kalli Knott, Leah Thompson and Shakera Williams; men's track and field's Garrett Graves, Tarajh Hudson, Bryan Lay, Tim Pelkmans, Seth Smith and Evan Wilson; softball's Sara Kate Booker, Tori Clayton, Brynn Daniel, Bailie Ragsdale and Riley Schwisow; tennis' Maria Farina, Ayu Ishibashi and Honoka Umeda; women's basketball's Sharna Ayres and Joceline Geara and men's basketball's Addison Patterson.
