NATCHITOCHES—The Northwestern State soccer team added a veteran along the back line, as Ian Brophy announced the signing of transfer defender Anika Sproxton.

"We are really excited to add Anika to the squad," head coach Ian Brophy said. "She brings lots of experience, having played in a lot of Division I games and with her national team before coming here. Her versatility is a major asset and she will certainly help improve the team defensively."

Sproxton, who played at Mount St Mary's under former Demons associate head coach Melissa Sherwood, played in 17 of the Mountaineers' 18 games, starting 15 of them.

She headlined a defense that held opponents to one or fewer goal in 11 of the 18 games, including recording six shutouts.

As a sophomore with the Mountaineers, she scored two goals and dished out an assist for five total points. Her goal total was tied for third on the team and point total tied for fourth.

Sproxton was selected to the Guyanese Women's National Team in 2024. Before that, she captained Guyana at the U17 level and was ranked the best U20 female of Guyana in August of 2022.

Prior to her time at Mount St. Mary's, she spent her freshman season at Southeast Missouri State, where she started one game and played in four.

In 2025, she was a member of the Vaughan Soccer Club. Prior to that, she was a part of the Caledon club team that won four Ontario Cups.

That brings the total number of newcomers to seven.
