SAN MARCOS, Texas—The Speed Demons stole the show for Northwestern State, as the sprinters showed the region how strong of a unit it has on the final day of competition at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday on the campus of Texas State.
Dynia Lewis (100-meter hurdles),
Sileena Farrell (100-meter dash,
Tavis Wilson (100-meter dash) and
Elijah Rowe (100-meter dash) all posted personal bests on the third and final day at Texas State.
"It was a pretty good day," head coach
Mike Heimerman said. "We did some things well and didn't in some the spots. We will learn and move forward. I am very pleased with those sprinters, and Jalya (Mason) had a great day.
"Ryah had a solid day, but there are lots to work on. It was a long three days of competition and today was hot and sunny, which is a drastic change from the first two of the meet. We will get back to work on Monday and keep building towards conference."
Lewis kicked the success off with a time of 13.87 in the 100-meter hurdles to place eighth out of 45 finishers.
Silet Gray clocked a 14.43 to place 21
st, barely missing out on a personal best herself.
Farrell finished 11
th out of 50 in the women's 100-meter dash, running an 11.75. She blasted her previous personal best of 12.06.
Victoria Byrd ran an even 12.00 to come in 35
th.
On the men's side in the 100, Wilson and Rowe each ran personal bests. Wilson clocked a 10.37 to finish 10
th out 47 finishers. After a strong day Friday, Rowe ran a personal-best 10.52 to finish 23
rd.
In the men's 400,
William Achee ran a 47.66 to pace the Demons finishers, placing 21
st. Achee's teammate
Galen Loyd (47.68) finished right behind him in 22
nd.
Mikkel Johansson (48.38) finished 34
th and
Desmond Duncan's season-best 48.45 placed him 35
th.
On the women's side in the 400,
Jayla Mason (56.30) came in 25
th, while
Kahliyah Anderson (56.55) was not too far behind in 30
th.
Brian Fisher ran a season-best 15.13 in the men's 110-meter hurdles to place 45
th.
In the jumps,
Jaslyn Smith placed sixth out of 33 in the triple jump, as she jumped a season-best 41-1.5
At the throws events,
Ryah Dates posted a season best in the women's shot put. The freshman placed ninth out of 19 to lead the Lady Demons.
Carnitra Mackey (45-9) finished 14
th and
Shanice Hutson (45-6.5) placed right behind her teammate in 15
th.
Shakera Williams posted a season best, tossing a 45-1 to finish 16
th.
To begin the day,
Bernesha Knowles threw a 155-05 to place 26
th in the women's hammer.
In the men's shot put,
Justin Craft placed 17
th with a throw of 51-6.5.
The Northwestern State track & field teams are back at it Friday as they stay in-state, traveling to Monroe for the Warhawk Classic, a two-day meet that begins Friday.
