Johansson places third in Denmark Championships, Gumbs finishes sixth in Jamaican Championships

HVIDOVRE, Denmark/Kingston, JAMAICA—Aiming to make a step toward making the Summer Olympics, Mikkel Johansson and Djimon Gumbs showed out on a national stage.

Johansson earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash at the Danish Championships, while Gumbs finished sixth at the Jamaican Championships on the final days for each competitors in the country's championships.

Johansson, competing in his native country of Denmark, ran a 21.45 in the finals to place third. Gustav Nielsen ran a best time of 21.04 to earn the victory.

To advance to the finals, Johansson clocked a 21.83 to also place third in the prelims. The top eight advanced to the finals.

While Johansson was competing in his home country in Europe, Gumbs traveled to Jamaica in efforts to make his way to the Olympics for his home country of the British Virgin Islands.

Gumbs tossed a 58-6.5 to finish sixth in the event, second among BVI competitors.

Throwing unattached, Rajindra Campbell posted a massive throw of 65-7.75 to finish on top in the event. The University of Oregon's Kobe Lawrence (64-3) came in second and Gumbs' fellow countryman Eldred Henry (63-9.75) placed third.

Gumbs aims to climb the charts in the point system. He needs to finish in the top 32 for an automatic spot in the Olympics and is currently 62nd.
