BOSTON—
Djimon Gumbs went out with a bang in the indoor season.
Gumbs earned a spot as a Second Team All-American following a 13
th-place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday in Boston.
Gumbs, a senior from Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, tossed a 61-0.75 to earn the 13
th-place finish, placing above two competitors from the Big Ten.
The senior made it two consecutive seasons a Northwestern State athlete earned Second Team All-American recognition, as teammate
Zachaeus Beard did the same in 2023 in the 60-meter dash.
Gumbs was the top performer among non-power schools, finishing ahead of Liberty's Warren Barrett, who tossed a 59-0 to finish 16
th. Barrett was the lone other non-power school participant in the event.
Ole Miss' sophomore Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan stole the show in the event, claiming the top spot with a personal best and facility record 69-0.75.
He was followed by Arkansas' Roje Stona (67-2.25), South Carolina's Dylan Targgart (65-5.5) and Wisconsin's Jason Stevens (65-2.25).
The leader in the event going into Saturday was Georgia's Alexander Kolesnikoff and he finished seventh with a distance of 62-10.5.
Northwestern State continues its outdoor season with the Louisiana Classics, beginning Friday in Lafayette.
