NATCHITOCHES – One of Northwestern State's most decorated individual competitors in any sports will be honored at Saturday's home football game against Eastern Illinois.

Stephanie Sowell, a four-time All-American and 2020 N-Club Hall of Fame inductee, will be the Exchange Bank and Trust Demon Great of the Game when the Demons take on the visiting Panthers at 6 p.m. inside Turpin Stadium.

Sowell was the 2004 runner-up in the long jump at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships, earning one of her four All-American honors. An eight-time Southland Conference individual championship, Sowell still holds the school triple-jump record at 43-1, set in 2003, and held the school long jump record until 2019 when eventual national champion Jasmyn Steels broke it.

Sowell's triple jump mark came one season after she set the school record in the event at 43-0.25.

Sowell's individual performances made her the first female Southland Conference student-athlete to become a four-time All-American.

Including her runner-up finish, Sowell produced four career top-11 finishes at NCAA national competitions – two each in the triple jump and long jumps.

The Exchange Bank and Trust Demon Great of the Game program is in its second decade of honoring former Northwestern State student-athletes and staff members. Exchange Bank and Trust has been a key supporter of NSU Athletics throughout its long history as the oldest financial institution in Louisiana.
