FORT WORTH, Texas—The Gumbs twins built on their successful debuts in the outdoor open as each finished in the top three in the discus on the first day of the TCU Alumni Invite.

Coming off a record-breaking performance at the Cowboy Relays, Djimon Gumbs finished tied for first in the event, tossing a 178-10, tied with North Texas' Wardell Glaspie for the top spot.

Diamante Gumbs placed third in the event, with a distance of 177-10. He finished with a top performance after recording three top-three outings in the outdoor season opener in Lake Charles this past weekend.

Overall in the men's discus, three of the top four, as Tarajh Hudson joined the Gumbs twins in the group, finishing fourth with a distance of 175-04. It is his third top-four finish in throwing competition in the young outdoor season.

"The guys did pretty well," head coach Mike Heimerman said. "They all had problems gripping the disc. DD managed to hold on to one and threw pretty well. Overall, I am very happy with them."

On the women's side, two Lady Demons finished in the top seven in the discus. Kaitlyn Washington placed fifth in the event with a 141-05, while Bernesha Knowles came in seventh with a distance of 125-03.

Washington posted another solid performance after winning the discus at the Cowboy Relays in Lake Charles in the outdoor opener. Knowles finished with another seventh place finish, continuing a strong beginning to the indoor season for the sophomore.

"Kaitlyn did well, even with the conditions," Heimerman said. "Her and Bernesha are continuing to improve on technical points of their throws. It was just hard to grip when the hands get cold. But overall, I am very pleased with the performance."

NSU wraps up the two-day meet Saturday in Fort Worth before heading back to Texas for a one-day meet on March 25 at the Prairie A&M Relays.
